How To Save Up For An American Girl Doll ( Or really anything)

$110.
Have you ever spent that money? Maybe on a doll?
If you have heard of American Girl, then this price will probably  ring a bell.
Now, as a kid getting this type of money is not always the easiest thing in the world. ( I know from experience)
So, how exactly do you get this money?
You can try to do the following:

  • Sell some of you old things online ( e bay)
  • Help out around the house
  • Babysit ( if old enough)
  • Make and sell crafts/ or jewelry
1. Selling some of your old things online, does not mean getting random, old junk that nobody wants. First, make sure that this is an item someone will want to buy. A old tee shirt, beat- up book, scratched CD/ DVD, are some examples of what you should not sell. Make sure that the item is in good condition and able to be used again. Next, you want to have a good price, meaning not too low, but not too high. How to do this? Think about if you were to buy this used, and how much you would be willing to pay. You can test the waters, by putting one of your items out online, and seeing how the response is. Have you ever received a present, that is still sitting in the back of your closet just collecting dust? Well, not is the time to take that out, and see if anyone would want to buy it. Depending on what it is, you could be able to make some money off of it!

2. Helping out around the house. Are there piles of dirty dishes desperately needing to be washed? Or piles of leaves of snow (depending on the season) that need to be raked or shoveled? Now is your opportunity! You can talk to your parents about how much, they will be willing to pay you. If they do not want to pay you for that, then look for something they do want help with. If you have to do chores around the house, and already get paid for it ( or not), look for something that you don't do on a regular base.  ( EX. Cleaning the garage, vacuuming around the house, e.c.t)

3. Babysitting. I know this is a common "money- maker" for kids/ teens... If you are not old enough to be left alone with  a kid, or don't feel comfortable, try a mother's helper. If you don't know what this means, it is simply where you are "baby- sitting" while the mother is still there. You could help change the baby's diaper, help clean up/ entertain the kid(s), so this way if something goes wrong, or you have a question/ need help the mother will be right there. She could be working from home, or just relaxing in her room! If you live in a neighborhood, see if any of them need help with their little kids. ( If they have any..)

4. Make/ sell crafts/ or jewelry. Are you creative? If you enjoy making jewelry/ crafts try to sell them. Instead of having a lemonade stand, you can try having a "craft- stand." Make sure your prices are low enough that people will be willing to pay for it, but high enough that you can cover any expenses for materials need, and enough to have some money to save.

5. Now that I have given you 4 easy ways to save up for any American Girl Doll ( or really anything) here is how to actually SAVE the money. Even though it is tempting to spend your money on other things you want, it is important to save your money too so that you can reach you goal. Put your money in a jar where you can SEE the money, and then put it up high on a shelf. This way, it won't be as tempting to take some money out, and you will be able to see the money reminding you of how far you got.  I have made a template that you can print out ( click on the link) which will hopefully help you to save your money. Every 3 Weeks you can take a little bit of money to spend if you want. Here is the link: ----------

I hope this was helpful!
